Please make sure you are dressed in clothes you don’t mind wearing out with the horses, you will need closed toed shoes to enter the paddock and although we have plenty of shade, sometimes we will be out in the sun, so sunscreen and a hat is advised. (If you are coming for room based counselling or coaching you are welcome to wear open toed shoes).
No, equine therapy will support you to build deep connections with our horses and with yourself. Although sessions involve lots of time being with and working closely with the horses, (often including activities such as grooming, leading and sharing the horses space), riding is something we offer. Our horses have full consent over how they participate in sessions. By working with the horses in this way we support you to experience them as unique individuals and sentient beings, rather than as tools to be used. We do support ethical and consensual riding and if you are interested in learning more about ethical horse training or horse care, then our Evolving Equestrians program could be a good fit for you. We offer this as a group or individual program over 8 weeks.
Yes, our team of mental health practitioners can support Self and Plan managed NDIS Participants hoping to use their funding to access our services for both individual and group support.
Referrals are welcome, however not required, you are welcome to self-refer.
We support anyone looking for an alternative to room based therapy, which is still deeply rooted in evidence based practice. No horse experience is required. We work with adults teens and children from age 4+.
At BEAT we know one size doesn't fit all, especially when it comes to therapy. We offer sessions on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis, one-off sessions are most welcome too.
Usually, we encourage you to book one initial session to see how you feel we are as a fit, following that you can discuss a plan to suit you going forward with your therapist.
No, we will support you to work with the herd in a way that feels safe and right for you.
